T-Mobile Galaxy S5 now Receiving OTA Android 5.0 Lollipop Update

T-Mobile is now offering the OTA Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Galaxy S5 devices. So, if you own a T-Mobile branded Samsung Galaxy S5, now you can start checking for the Lollipop notification. The firmware should be spotted automatically on your phone – just slide down the notification panel as the OTA should be displayed there.

However, since we are talking about an official release, the T-Mobile Android 5.0 Lollipop OS will be rolled out gradually, or in phases. This means that not all the Galaxy S5 users will receive the OTA at the same time. If the notification isn’t yet displayed on your phone, you can manually search for the same by going to “menu – settings – about phone – software version – check for software updates”.

The firmware is dubbed as UVU1DOB1 and it is coming as a 900 MB package – make sure you enable a Wi-Fi connection during the download and update procedure. The Lollipop update can be applied automatically; downloaded via Samsung KIES or manually installed through Odin (we will bring a proper tutorial so stay close).

LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update “coming Soon” in the US

Last year, the South Korean phone maker promised that the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop will be pushed to users early 2015. LG’s flagship smartphone has already received Lollipop on several markets, but now we know when it will be released in the US.

According to the company’s tweet on the matter, the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop is “coming soon” for the US-based owners of the smartphone. What “coming soon” actually means? I’m glad you’ve asked. Unfortunately, we are unable to give a proper answer.

As usual, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for LG G3 will be pushed to users in phases. Furthermore, the carriers will have to further test the new firmware before being able to issue the update. As soon as your G3 becomes eligible to receive Lollipop, you should be able to see a system update message in the notifications bar. All you need to do is tap on it then follow the on-screen instructions. In case the software update notification failed to appear, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > General > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates.

I remind you that Lollipop is the most major update Google’s mobile operating system has received since launch. The Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OTA Update is being rolled out in phases; it should hit all the 2nd Gen Moto G devices before the end of this month. Remember that the update is usually released only for the 100% stock Moto G devices. The 2nd Moto G generations models have been launched in 2014 with the Android 4.4 KitKat build. Now, a year after its release and several months since the official Lollipop launch by Google, the 2nd Gen Moto G device has received its first Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The Lollipop 5.0.2 OS update is one of the biggest releases made by Google for all the Android-based smartphones and tablets. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update Starts Seeding To Moto G 2014 Users In US

The Moto G 2014 was the first smartphone to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update last year, even before Google released the update for its Nexus line of smartphones and tablets. Motorola has now set the standard for other Android OEMs once again by being the first to roll out the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for its Moto G 2014 smartphone. The 5.0.2 Lollipop update has so far been rolled out only for the Google Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi only tablets.

The OTA update is 39MB in size and can be installed on your device right away if you have rooted it and have a custom recovery installed. To get the firmware running on your 2^nd Gen Moto G, you will need to download the ROM from this link for the Moto G XT1063 model. Do not install the firmware on any other model of Moto G as the modem firmware differs for each model. Once you have downloaded the firmware, transfer the 22.21.28 firmware ZIP file to the internal storage of your Moto G and boot into recovery. In recovery, wipe the cache, data, system and Dalvik cache. Once you have wiped all, return to the main recovery menu and tap on ‘Install zip from SD card’. Now choose the downloaded ZIP file and flash it to install the firmware on your Moto G 2014. Once the flashing process is complete, reboot your device. When the device boots up, you should have the latest 22.21.28 Android 5.0.2 firmware running.

Even though we are dealing with a minor update, I am pretty sure you would want your T-Mobile Galaxy S4 to run the latest Android software version. Sony Mobile to Sacrifice Volume For Profits As It Struggles With Smartphone Business

Sony has had it tough in the smartphone business. The company decided to go solo in the smartphone network by acquiring Ericsson’s stake in Sony Ericsson in the year 2011 and renamed the company to Sony Mobile. Soon after the formation of the new company, Sony aimed to become the third largest smartphone vendor in the world. Unfortunately the goal was a bit too optimistic and the company has actually been finding it tough to maintain its sales in the past few quarters. To turn things around, the new Sony Mobile CEO Hiroki Totoki has decided that the company will shrink its smartphone portfolio in the coming year and target profit instead of chasing market share like it was doing so far.

The company is bracing itself for volumes in the smartphone business shrinking by as much as 30% in the near future. The aim going forward is to remain profitable and just maintain presence in the smartphone market instead of targeting market share or increasing unit sales of smartphones. Sony had already announced plans earlier this year of cutting down on its mid-range smartphone portfolio and focusing only on the high-end segment. In the coming year, the number of entry-level and mid-range Xperia models could be limited to just a few.

In its previous announcement, Sony revealed that the Xperia business was the main reason behind its losses and it was not expecting to make any profits from the mobile business this year and would be happy if it could get the business to break even this financial year. It has also lowered its full year smartphone sales forecast twice this year. As part of its turnaround plan the company will focus on the gaming and image sensor business to get the company back into profit.

Sony’s hopes of becoming the third largest smartphone OEM were never going to come true unless the company focused on the two key smartphone markets – China and USA. Sony has had limited presence in both markets. Sony did try launching a few exclusive Xperia handsets for the Chinese market but it couldn’t win much market share and has decided to move away from the Chinese market owing to the stiff competition there. As far as the US market goes, Sony has never had a good presence in the market and hasn’t been able to strike a deal with all the major US carriers. Its Xperia smartphones have so far been available only through AT&T and T-Mobile. The relationship with AT&T didn’t last long and while it continues to sell Xperia flagships through T-Mobile, which alone isn’t enough to make an impact in the American market as T-Mobile has the smallest market share among the major US carriers. The lack of extensive marketing has also been a factor behind the slowing sales of Xperia smartphones. Even though the company now spends a lot more on marketing its latest smartphones, initially Sony had ignored the need to properly market its smartphones to the global consumers.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 Update Now Being Pushed to AT&T Users

Even though everybody is talking about the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Nexus devices, there are some good news for the Galaxy S4 owners, too. If you happen to own the AT&T variant of the S4, you should keep an eye on the notifications panel.

AT&T revealed today that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 update is now being pushed to users. Their S4 was already running KitKat (Android 4.4.2) so there won’t be any interface improvements such as transparent status and nav bars, immersive mode, new location menu, white status bar icons. The Android 4.4.4 update for Samsung Galaxy S4 arrives to improve security, to add Knox 2.0, and to fix various bugs including the E911 Call issue. The new update will also add some more AT&T bloatware like Keeper, Mail, Live, Uber, Remote Support, and Device help.

As usual, we are dealing with a staged roll out, which means that some users might not be able to download and install the new update right away. Once your Galaxy S4 becomes eligible to receive the Android 4.4.4 update, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Official Update to Arrive This Week at AT&T

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will receive a brand new Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware update starting today. Keep an eye on your device’s notifications panel in order to see if there is any new OTA Update available for download.

This new build of Android 4.4.2 KitKat has the firmware version set to KOT49H.I317UCUCNJ1 and it measures only 93.2 MB, so you can complete the download using your data plan without worrying about going over your data plan. Android 4.4.2 for AT&T Galaxy Note 2 doesn’t bring too many changes and it will most probably be the final KitKat build that we will released for this device, as Samsung will soon start working on Android 5.0 Lollipop integration.

KOT49H.I317UCUCNJ1 Android 4.4.2 for Galaxy Note 2 at AT&T brings Android OS enhancements and bug fixes. You won’t find any other extra features nor applications added by this release, but you should still install it as it adds stability and an improved KitKat environment.

In case the OTA Update notification isn’t sent your way this week, then you shouldn’t panic as it will eventually arrive before the end of this month if you’re running 100% stock Android on your Galaxy Note 2 device. Note that this update will not be pushed for the models that are running custom ROMs. Also, this new firmware update is rolled out in phases, which means that not all users will get it at the same time.

AT&T Rolls out LG G3 Update, Unfortunately It’s Not Lollipop

The folks at AT&T have announced they are rolling out a new update for the LG G3. Unfortunately, is not the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but only a minor one. Anyway, the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is out there, so you should keep an eye on the notifications bar.

AT&T revealed that the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is being pushed to users in phases, which means that some of you might have to wait longer than others. As you may know already, once your terminal becomes eligible to receive the new firmware, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, choose ‘Download Now’, wait until the download is completed, and then tap ‘Install now’. The smartphone should reboot and install the new software. If the system update notification failed to appear, we would also recommend you to perform a manual check under Settings > General > About phone > Software update > Check now.

According to the changelog posted on AT&T’s website the new update arrives with Google Security Patches, stability improvements, Mobile TV, and Skyfire Toolbar removal. It seems it also updates GMS (Google Mobile Service) and brings the “no power on” fix via Qualcomm’s patch. The new firmware is labeled KVT49L.D85010f.

AT&T also revealed that the new Android 4.4.2 update for LG G3 has a size of around 163 MB. We are recommending you to use a stable Wi-Fi network while downloading the update file in order to avoid unwanted data charges.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge: US Availability & Release

Certification tests are generally the first step towards releasing a device, and Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge just passed the FCC, confirming some rumors. With this step complete, we can expect the device to hit retail stores pretty soon, but pricing details are not known yet.

Samsung announced their Galaxy Note Edge device back in September, along with some other great devices. The gadget quickly became controversial due to its curved display, which had never been seen before on a smartphone. The curved display is supposed to be a feature of the Galaxy S6 also, except on both sides. It wasn’t far from the Note Edge’s announcement when tech enthusiasts quickly started talking about it, and the device’s popularity was boosted considerably.

Galaxy Note Edge coming to Sprint, T-mobile, US Cellular, Verizon & AT&T

Of course, the Galaxy Note Edge comes in multiple variations and some of them have already been released, with AT&T being the first retailer to feature the device ahead of its November 14th release date. The US retailer is currently accepting pre-orders, but it’s unknown when they will ship. Other carriers that are expected to put Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge in their inventory are Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon, but release dates are unknown and vary from carrier to carrier.

The FCC reports a certification test for a device known as SM-N915R4, aka Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. FCC tests are a primary requirement before a device can actually be released on American markets, and the Note Edge has just passed its certification test successfully. We know that the device is set to be released in multiple countries, such as the United Kingdom, Russia, India, Australia, Portugal, Nordic countries, France, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands. These countries are most likely going to get the Galaxy Note Edge in 2015, but there are no pricing details known at this point.

Nexus 6 Release Dates: New Information

Google’s Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 releases have been very slow so far, running into a lot of issues, mostly consisting of low stocks that can’t keep up with the huge demand. Samsung have announced on their support page that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Android 4.4.2 OTA update is now being rolled out for the AT&T variant of the device. Even though the KitKat update for several variants of the Tab 3 was rolled out a few months ago, the AT&T owners have been left waiting until now. For what is worth, the Sprint variant of the device got updated to KitKat back in June.

As you might have guessed already the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Android 4.4.2 update brings major changes. Besides the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, immersive mode, white status bar icons, cloud printing, color emoji support, new Location menu, or full screen album and movie art in the lock screen, the new firmware also arrives with updated Samsung apps, enhanced Samsung keyboard, and security and performance improvements. It’s definitely an update you would want on your device, so keep an eye on the notifications panel.
