Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA Released for HTC One M8 Verizon Wireless Variant

If you own the Verizon Wireless version of the HTC One M8, you should expect to see a notification about the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA soon as the carrier has now started seeding the Lollipop update to its customers. Verizon Wireless is the third US carrier to have rolled out the OTA update after Sprint and T-Mobile. The only major US carrier variant of the One M8 still stuck on Android 4.4.4 KitKat now is the AT&T version.

The update is now available via the OTA route, so you will be able to download and install the update on your HTC One M8 without having to connect it to your computer. Before you check for the OTA update, we suggest you connect your One M8 to a Wi-Fi network as you will not be allowed to download the update over cellular network as it is a major update. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the HTC One M8 includes a number of changes like a new material design user-interface, 64-bit ABI support, ART runtime for improved performance, new notification panel with quick settings, updated lock screen, redesigned recent apps overview with card and grid view options, Band 4 roaming enabled, enhanced 3-way calling feature, a few other improvements and bug fixes. The most significant improvements included with the Lollipop update have to do with device performance and responsiveness, battery life, and of course the new updated Sense 6.0 UI. The newer Sense 7.0 UI that debuted with the One M9 will only be arriving to One M8 users later this year as part of another Lollipop update, possibly based on Android 5.1 or Android 5.2.

HTC had earlier promised to release the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the One M7 and One M8 flagship smartphones within 90 days of its release from Google. For the Verizon One M8, the update has arrived well beyond 100 days after Android 5.0’s initial release last year.

New Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rolling out at Verizon

The folks at Verizon don’t have too many tablets in their portfolio, but if you grabbed the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet from them you should check the notifications bar for a software update. Big Red announced on their support page that a new Android 4.4 KitKat update for Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is now being pushed to users.

Since the device was already running Android 4.4, the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar icons, immersive mode, cloud printing, full screen album and movie art in the lock screen, or color emoji support were already available to the users. The new Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Android 4.4 KitKat update comes to optimize the touch sensitivity, to improve the performance for the users who chose to encrypt the device, and to enhance Talkback support. It also includes minor UI tweaks such as new fonts, icons, and layouts.

The new software update is being pushed to users in phases, so it might not hit your tablet right away. Even though the carriers haven’t updated their support page yet, many users are reporting that the new software update is hitting their devices.

The new LG G3 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update has software version number VS98523A and, as usual, it’s being rolled out in phases. For what it’s worth, Verizon is the third US-based carrier to push the Lollipop update to their G3 variant, after Sprint and AT&T already rolled out the new software update.

As I was mentioning above, we are dealing with a staged roll out, meaning that some of you would have to wait longer than others. Verizon’s Sony Xperia Z3v Now Getting New Android 4.4.4 Update

Today is the “update your Verizon phone to new software” day. After we told you earlier today that Verizon’s LG G2 got a new update and that Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini also received a new firmware, hear that the Xperia Z3v (which is also sold through Big Red’s network) is now getting a new Android 4.4.4 build.

Verizon revealed on their support page that a new Sony Xperia Z3v Android 4.4.4 update is now being pushed to users. According to the support PDF the new firmware reduces mobile data notifications during calls, it simplifies access to e-mail notification settings, updates the Lifelog notification to guide the user on
how to put their device into high accuracy mode, changes Lifelog default height and weight measurements to standard, and optimizes oversized email retransmit to reduce data usage. It also comes with improved NFC performance, modified group MMS to minimize “Message Expired or Not Available” condition, it enables HD video playback on Google Play Movies, and more.

Of course, the new Android 4.4.4 update for Sony Xperia Z3v is being rolled out in phases, which means that some users might have to wait longer than others before being able to update their phones. You probably know already that as soon as Verizon pushes the new firmware to your Z3v unit you should be able to see a system update message in the notifications bar. Verizon is set to release the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge in early January, with a precise date to be given during CES 2015, according to current info.

The device was initially released on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint, but never reached US Cellular or Verizon, which raised a few questions.

Note Edge likely to release on 8th Jan on Verizon Wireless

Current rumors point towards a January 8th release date for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, but that date is not confirmed yet. The information comes from a leaked Verizon document and seems pretty trustworthy right now. It doesn’t reveal the price, but if it’s anything like the other carriers, then it won’t be too cheap. The Galaxy Note Edge is set to possibly feature a price tag of $399 on-contract, or $450, but it’s all up to Verizon. The carrier will most likely be selling two color variations of the device: black and white. This would mean that Verizon would be the second carrier to offer both color variations, alongside AT&T, because the rest of the carriers only feature this device in black.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA Update Rolling Out for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and 10.1 at Verizon

The official Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update is rolling out right now for the 10.1 and 8.0 inch variants of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. The update has been pushed earlier by Verizon and you should check the tablet’s Notifications panel to see if there are any new firmware files available for download.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA Update for both Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 features the same firmware versions: VRU2ANK1. The new update is rolling out only for the Verizon variants of these tablets and it comes with the following changes: tablet self activation support, Find My Mobile, Kids Mode Widget, My Verizon 10.0.710 update, Hancom Office with support for reading comments of pdf file, Here & Now widget is no longer present. Besides all these changes you will see that numerous bugs have been fixed; now your tablet should be much more stable than before.

The new Android 4.4.4 update is rolled out by Verizon in phases, so you shouldn’t panic in case the firmware doesn’t arrive today for your device, as the roll out will continue until all the tablets are successfully updated. When the Android 4.4.4 OTA Update notification is shown you should simply confirm the install process and then your tablet will complete the rest of the process by itself. 

New LG G PAD 8.3 Android 4.4.2 Update Now Available at Verizon, Adds LTE Roaming

For the time being, the G Pad 8.3 is the most powerful LG tablet currently in Verizon’s line-up. If you happen to own an LTE-compatible Verizon LG G Pad 8.3, then you should keep an eye on the notifications panel as a software update might be ready for you.

Verizon announced on their support page that a new LG G Pad 8.3 Android 4.4.2 update is now being rolled out to users. Since G Pad 8.3 VK810 runs Android 4.4.2 out of the box, all the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status bar icons, new Location menu, color emoji support, cloud printing, immersive mode, or full screen album and movie art came pre-loaded. The new software update only arrives with minor changes. According to the support PDF the new firmware adds 4G LTE roaming support in select markets and brings a fix for power on issues. You should also know that Redbox Instant is no longer supported. It’s also worth noting that the update has software version VK81023A.

Just like any other software update, the LG G Pad 8.3 Android 4.4.2 update is being pushed to users in stages. This means that certain users will not be able to download and install the software right away. Small Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Rolling Out from Verizon

Verizon has announced that their version of Samsung Galaxy S5 is getting a brand new Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update. This is a small firmware update and it is not the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, which should be ready for a January 2015 launch.

There aren’t too many new changes added in this release, as most probably Verizon has probably already started to test the Android 5.0 Lollipop and we will soon receive news on its possible official launch. Up until then you should flash this new Android 4.4.4 KitKat build.

The KTU84P.G900VVrU1ANK2 Android 4.4.4 build comes with bug fixes and it replaces the Isis Mobile Wallet to Softcard as the former name resembles the acronym now used by a jihadist rebel group. There are no other major changes in this new firmware, but you’re free to tell us in comments if you can find some new features worth mentioning after testing the G900VVRU1ANK2 firmware.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is being rolled out in phases for the Galaxy S5 by Verizon and it will not hit all units at the same time. However, before the end of this year all the Verizon Galaxy S5 users will receive the new firmware files. Verizon Releases new Android OTA for Samsung Galaxy S4

While Android 5.0 Lollipop is already pushed out for different Android smartphones and tablets, Verizon just released a new official update for its Galaxy S4 devices. No, it is not the OTA Lollipop roll out you expect, as this time we are only talking about a minor OS improvement, so KitKat is the common word.

The new Verizon OTA should embrace your Samsung Galaxy S4 right away, so you can already check if a new notification is available on your phone. The notification should be displayed automatically on your phone – just slide down the notification panel – or you can manually search for the new OTA by going to “menu – settings – about phone – software update”. If the update is there, ensure a Wi-Fi connection and follow the on screen prompts to automatically flash the same.

As already pointed out, these roll out represents only a minor Android improvement that should smooth things up on your Verizon Galaxy S4. The firmware should address issues related to VPN connectivity and intermittent power cycle problem. And that’s quite all; just these two problems will be resolved by this OTA release, so don’t expect to receive new features or apps along with other stability improvements.

Anyway, after all, it’s good to see that Verizon is still trying to satisfy its clients, even if it implies in providing such a small update. Of course, Android 5.0 Lollipop should be also prepared by the carrier as it is quite frustrating to see other devices receiving the new Android OS ahead of Samsung’s own flagships: Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5.

The 2nd gen Moto X Android 5.0 Lollipop update is now being rolled out for the Verizon variant of the smartphone. Or at least that’s what a tweet by @droidlife is indicating. The same Tweet also includes a screenshot of the Moto X Android 5.0 Lollipop update as proof.

The Verizon users were invited to participated in the Android 5.0 Lollipop soak tests for Moto X 2014 late last week and it looks like everything went as planned as the update is now being rolled out. As you may know, the users who signed up for Motorola’s Feedback Network are asked to test and give feedback on new software versions before they are released for the public. Unless anything unexpected occurs, the firmware is rolled out only days after the soak test invites are sent in.

As usual, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Verizon Moto X 2014 will be rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away.
