A leaked document recently revealed that Sprint plans to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA to owners of the G3 from the 16^thonwards.

The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA for the AT&T G3 variant is now being seeded to users and a few users have already reported that they have indeed received the update today. The OTA update weighs in at 689.53MB and includes all the features that are part of the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA for the International variants of the LG G3. These include an updated user-interface design based on Google’s Material Design guidelines, improved performance thanks to the switch to Android ART runtime, Smart Lock feature that allows you to unlock your LG G3 using devices such as Android Wear smartwatches, improved Bluetooth connectivity, new lockscreen and heads-up notifications, and other bug-fixes and improvements.

LG had announced late last month that the G3 Lollipop update will be expanded to the US soon, although no specific information was revealed on which carrier would be releasing the updated first. The delay in the update rollout for the US market was due to the fact that the US carriers test the update themselves for a period of a few weeks before they roll out the update to their customers. New LG G3 Android 4.4.2 Update to Be Pushed to Sprint Users This Monday

According to a leaked Sprint document a new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update will be pushed to user starting Monday, December 1. Apparently, we are talking about a minor software update, but, even so, you would definitely want your device to run the latest available firmware.

The said document leaked online courtesy of Android Police and reveals that the new Android 4.4.2 update for Sprint LG G3 is labeled ZV26. It also shows that, as usual, the update will be rolled out in phases with only 15% of the active Sprint G3 units getting it December 1st. A second batch will be rolled out a week later, covering 35% of the devices, and by December 9 50% of Sprint’s G3 terminals should receive the update. Over the next couple of days the percent will rise to 75% and 100%, respectively.

Even though the document suggests that the new firmware brings Google Security Patches which are often related to Android 4.4.4, it’s definitely not the case here. The new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update will also arrive with a Qualcomm Security Patch, International Voice over Wi-Fi support, improved unlock algorithm when phone is in the pocket, and enhancements to LG Home, compass application, and the auxiliary cable recognition. The folks at AT&T have announced they are rolling out a new update for the LG G3. Unfortunately, is not the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but only a minor one. Anyway, the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is out there, so you should keep an eye on the notifications bar.

AT&T revealed that the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is being pushed to users in phases, which means that some of you might have to wait longer than others. As you may know already, once your terminal becomes eligible to receive the new firmware, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, choose ‘Download Now’, wait until the download is completed, and then tap ‘Install now’. The smartphone should reboot and install the new software. According to the changelog posted on AT&T’s website the new update arrives with Google Security Patches, stability improvements, Mobile TV, and Skyfire Toolbar removal. LG confirmed the update was coming soon last week, and we’ve even seen some leaked video of it running and ready for a release.

Today though, while users won’t be receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop, those with the AT&T LG G3 can look forward to a much needed software update that has started rolling out this morning. It’s mostly small changes, but below are all the details owners need to know.

They do mention stability improvements, but that’s all the changelog details on that front. Hopefully this will fix some of the crashes, lag, and other issues that have been plaguing a small number of LG G3 owners.

Some of AT&T’s bloat ware made it in the update, that being the Mobile TV 6.0 app, and they’ve also removed the Skyfire Toolbar, whatever that is. Looking at our own AT&T LG G3 there’s nothing of that sort, so users don’t need to worry about this at the moment.

As usual, the update will be rolling out in stages starting today. Users can head into settings > about phone > and check for updates to get the latest and greatest. Or just wait and accept the over the air update once the notification arrives on your handset.

It’s fair to see LG using a small region as a sort of test bed for their upcoming release of Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the LG G3, it just has me worried about when we’ll see the update in those larger markets.

We will most likely see Motorola and Google being ‘first’ when it comes to releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop in the United States. However, this does start to put some pressure on the other OEMs in the Android industry. LG was dead last when it came to releasing the Android 4.4 KitKat update last year. This year, it’s like the Android OEMs are trying to win a race for who can release the update the fastest. This makes me wonder why this is happening this time around. Could Google be incentivizing smartphone manufacturers with some sort of reward?

There isn’t a wide selection of them out but we have seen a lot of modified LG stock ROMs. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw this update modified and released for all other variants of the LG G3 by the end of next weekend.
