If you got your LG G3 from Sprint, then expect a new software update in the next few days. The carrier announced that a new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 OTA update is now being pushed to users.

According to Sprint, the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is labeled ZV6 and it should hit the devices over the next few days. The official changelog talks about Google Security Patches and even though this might be common for Android 4.4.4, we can assure you that the LG ZV6 OTA update is still Android 4.4.2-based. I remind you that LG G3 will skip past Android 4.4.4 and get upgraded directly to Android 5.0 Lollipop from Android 4.4.2.

The Sprint changelog for the LG G3 Android 4.4.2 ZV6 OTA update also includes Qualcomm Security Patch, support for International Voice over Wi-Fi, improved unlock algorithm when phone is in the pocked and enhancements to LG Home, the compass application, and Auxiliary cable recognition. The new firmware also adds Mobilize.

As always, the new software update will be rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might not receive it right away. Anyway, you should remain patient and keep an eye on the notifications bar. Once your terminal is ready to get upgraded with the new software, you should receive a system update notification. All you need to do is tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions. You also have the option to perform a manual check under Settings > System updates > Update LG software > Check now.

Sprint doesn’t mention anything about the size of the LG G3 ZV6 OTA update, but we are expecting it to weigh in at over 300 MB. We are recommending you to download it over a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid hurting your data plan.

LG G Flex 2 Tipped To Be Launching At CES 2015

LG unveiled the G Flex phablet late last year with a flexible P-OLED display and body. Back then it definitely impressed the tech community simply because the device was one of the few out there to show true innovation. After almost a year since the launch of the G Flex, it seems like the launch of its successor is drawing closer. Sources close to LG have tipped Android Authority on the release of the LG Flex 2 at its CES press conference in January next year.

Unfortunately not a lot of details regarding the phablet are available yet. But the sources did mention that the G Flex 2 is going to be a major upgrade over its predecessor. According to them the G Flex 2 will come with a similar flexible P-OLED display and a self-healing body with improvements. The resolution will be bumped to Full HD this time apparently and the overall dimensions of the device are also expected to go down in order to improve its ergonomics. Earlier reports have speculated LG might make the body of the next G flex even more flexible than the earlier model. While the new report doesn’t claim anything regarding improvement in flexibility of the components, it could probably be expected. Of course a truly bendable phone is still a few years away, but until then the LG G Flex 2 would probably be as close as it gets. The G Flex’s self-healing feature was also one of the key highlights of the device, allowing it to heal itself from minor scratches to its body. I hope LG will concentrate more on this feature with the G Flex 2 as it could really be a big selling point, even if the device isn’t aimed at being a volume seller.

The G Flex wasn’t a major success for LG in terms of sales, but then, commercial success was probably not what LG was hoping to achieve with the G Flex. The device was more of a statement to its rivals and that purpose it did manage to serve pretty well. Whether LG wants to continue with the same approach for the G Flex 2 remains to be seen. The limited supply of bendable components like the P-OLED display, body and the battery could mean that the G Flex 2 would also be available in only a handful of markets and be priced significantly higher than flagship devices from other manufacturers except Apple. The G Flex last year was priced as high as the more expensive Apple iPhone 5s variants. So the G Flex 2 would probably cost around the same as a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus or even higher depending on what hardware components it will come packed with.

New LG G3 Android 4.4.2 Update to Be Pushed to Sprint Users This Monday

According to a leaked Sprint document a new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update will be pushed to user starting Monday, December 1. Apparently, we are talking about a minor software update, but, even so, you would definitely want your device to run the latest available firmware.

The said document leaked online courtesy of Android Police and reveals that the new Android 4.4.2 update for Sprint LG G3 is labeled ZV26. It also shows that, as usual, the update will be rolled out in phases with only 15% of the active Sprint G3 units getting it December 1st. A second batch will be rolled out a week later, covering 35% of the devices, and by December 9 50% of Sprint’s G3 terminals should receive the update. Over the next couple of days the percent will rise to 75% and 100%, respectively.

Even though the document suggests that the new firmware brings Google Security Patches which are often related to Android 4.4.4, it’s definitely not the case here. The new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update will also arrive with a Qualcomm Security Patch, International Voice over Wi-Fi support, improved unlock algorithm when phone is in the pocket, and enhancements to LG Home, compass application, and the auxiliary cable recognition. It also adds mobilize device content caching.

Once your terminal becomes eligible to receive the new firmware, you should be notified that a system update is pending. If you aren’t able to see the system update notification, it’s also worth checking for the update manually under Menu > Settings > System Updates > Update LG Software.

LG G Pad 7.0 LTE and G Pad 10.1 LTE Join Verizon’s Line-up

The holiday season is right around the corner, so the shopping fever will soon begin. The Big Red carrier officially announced a couple of days ago that two new tablets are now joining their line-up: the LG G Pad 7.0 LTE and the LG G Pad 10.1 LTE.

Both tablets are compatible with Verizon’s LTE network and both come with similar technical specifications. The LG G Pad 7.0 LTE features a 7.0-inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 800 resolutions and a Snapdragon 400 CPU at 1.2 GHz, while packing 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of microSD-expandable storage, 5 MP primary camera, 1.3 MP secondary camera, and a 4,000 mAh battery. As you might have guessed already, the LG G Pad 10.1 LTE brings a bigger 10.1-inch display. It has IPS LCD technology and a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels, while the processing tasks are handled by the same quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU. Just like its little brother, G Pad 10.1 LTE brings 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB storage, microSD (up to 64 GB), 5 MP rear-facing shooter, and 2 MP camera for video calls. The battery is a Li-Ion 8,000 mAh unit.

AT&T Rolls out LG G3 Update, Unfortunately It’s Not Lollipop

The folks at AT&T have announced they are rolling out a new update for the LG G3. Unfortunately, is not the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but only a minor one. Anyway, the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is out there, so you should keep an eye on the notifications bar.

AT&T revealed that the new LG G3 Android 4.4.2 update is being pushed to users in phases, which means that some of you might have to wait longer than others. As you may know already, once your terminal becomes eligible to receive the new firmware, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, choose ‘Download Now’, wait until the download is completed, and then tap ‘Install now’. The smartphone should reboot and install the new software. If the system update notification failed to appear, we would also recommend you to perform a manual check under Settings > General > About phone > Software update > Check now.

According to the changelog posted on AT&T’s website the new update arrives with Google Security Patches, stability improvements, Mobile TV, and Skyfire Toolbar removal. It seems it also updates GMS (Google Mobile Service) and brings the “no power on” fix via Qualcomm’s patch. The new firmware is labeled KVT49L.D85010f.

AT&T also revealed that the new Android 4.4.2 update for LG G3 has a size of around 163 MB. We are recommending you to use a stable Wi-Fi network while downloading the update file in order to avoid unwanted data charges.

Still running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, many owners are patiently awaiting the upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Today news arrived that the AT&T LG G3 is receiving an update, but sadly no Lollipop has arrived just yet.

The LG G3 currently runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and appears to be skipping over Android 4.4.4 KitKat in favor of jumping straight to Android 5.0 Lollipop before the end of the year. LG confirmed the update was coming soon last week, and we’ve even seen some leaked video of it running and ready for a release.

Today though, while users won’t be receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop, those with the AT&T LG G3 can look forward to a much needed software update that has started rolling out this morning. It’s mostly small changes, but below are all the details owners need to know.

AT&T and LG have delivered a fix courtesy of Qualcomm that fixes a no power on glitch that some users have experienced. Where the phone simply won’t turn on in some instances, but works later. Then of course some Google services and security patches, likely those that arrived with Android 4.4.4 KitKat earlier this summer.

They do mention stability improvements, but that’s all the changelog details on that front. Hopefully this will fix some of the crashes, lag, and other issues that have been plaguing a small number of LG G3 owners.

Some of AT&T’s bloat ware made it in the update, that being the Mobile TV 6.0 app, and they’ve also removed the Skyfire Toolbar, whatever that is. Looking at our own AT&T LG G3 there’s nothing of that sort, so users don’t need to worry about this at the moment.

As usual, the update will be rolling out in stages starting today. Users can head into settings > about phone > and check for updates to get the latest and greatest. Or just wait and accept the over the air update once the notification arrives on your handset.

There is no word on the Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out for LG G3 devices worldwide, but the rumor mill has it that it should haven before the end of this year. Remember the curved LG G Flex smartphone? Err… We mean phablet. It was the first curved smartphone to be launched and came with a 6 inch curved P-OLED display with HD resolution. New reports suggest that LG is working on its successor and will be launching it very soon.

A report from Gizbot states that the Korean manufacturer will be launching the G Flex 2 to compete against the Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 plus this holiday season. The website claims to have received a tip from a senior executive at LG India on the device. The second generation G Flex is said to be more compact than the first one and come equipped with a resolution higher than Full HD but not Quad-HD. That does seem pretty weird as it makes very little sense to opt for a resolution somewhere between 1080p and 1440p. The phone is said to be announced at an event later in the year. Their source also claims that the G Flex 2 will be launching in Korea, US and India.

The first G Flex wasn’t a huge success commercially and wasn’t available in many markets either. And the markets where it did launch, the crazy high pricing drove away most prospective consumers. It does seem like LG was only intending to make a statement with the G Flex and show the world that they are one of the most innovative smartphone OEMs out there and have the potential to launch some amazing products and new technologies like the curved OLED display.

We hope the new G Flex will be a bit more serious product and come with a more affordable price tag. It just doesn’t make sense for LG to repeat the same mistakes again with the successor. Some curvy high-resolution OLED goodness, combined with the latest Snapdragon 805 chipset and an improved design could make the G Flex 2 a strong rival to the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and the iPhone 6 Plus.

The original promotion actually began earlier last month and was supposed to end at the end of July, but it seems the carrier is extending the sale for a while longer.

During this iPhone 5s sale, you can pick up the device for as low as $99 after signing a new two-year contract, with the iPhone 5c priced at $49 after signing a contract as well. The iPhone 4s is still free on contract (in other words, you can’t really cut half off of something that’s already free).

It’s no longer a mystery that the folks at Google will be releasing the Android 5.0 L update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 later this year. Even though the Mountain View-based giant didn’t reveal when the new Android update will be released for the public, we strongly believe we can make a fairly accurate estimation of its release date based on the company’s previous launches

I guess that most of you know that, so far, Google had the habit of releasing two major Android updates per year: one in the summer, about a month after their annual Google I/O tech conference, and the other one mid-to-late fall. Even though it was rumored that everybody will get to enjoy a new Android update this summer, the search engine giant decided it’s time to change their approach regarding their Android releases. As far as it looks, Google will do the Android L launch Apple-style.

Why Apple-style? Because the Cupertino-based company is usually introducing new iOS versions in the summer, during WWDC, makes them available for beta testing for a few months, then releases them in the fall, when a new iPhone is launched. As you may know, Google previewed Android L at Google I/O back in June, made it available for download as Developer Preview for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 for testing purposes and they will probably release it late-October or early-November, synchronized with the debut of new Nexus hardware.

It was reported a couple of months ago that Google is reading a new program called Android Silver that will replace the Nexus family of devices. Many believed that this will be the end of the Nexus line-up, but a Google employee recently dismissed the rumors. Soon after, rumors of new Nexus hardware started to hit the web. First, we’ve heard of a new 8.9-inch Nexus tablet. The device is reportedly manufactured by HTC and it’s known internally as Volantis. If the reports are to be believed the new Nexus 9 will sport 64-bit processor, 3 GB RAM, 8 MP primary shooter, and aluminum zero-gap construction. The rumor mill also talks about a new Nexus Smartphone, unofficially dubbed Nexus 6. The handset codenamed Shamu is made by Motorola and its technical specifications include a 5.2-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) display, quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB RAM, and 13 MP rear-facing shooter with OIS. There’s no doubt that both the Nexus 9 and the Nexus 6 will run Android 5.0 L out of the box.

As you may know, Google introduced the new release as Android L, but this will definitely not be the final name. Each major Android release has a unique version number and a dessert-inspired nick name. Given the high amount of changes it brings (the update is even bigger than the jump from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich), Android L will surely have version number 5.0. Regarding the dessert name, so far we’ve heard about Lollipop or Licorice. There are even some reports of Lemon Meringue Pie.

The first thing you’ll notice about Android 5.0 L is the new Material Design philosophy. The interface is more colorful and more animated, while the system as a whole is more intuitive courtesy of 3D effects and shadows. The performance will also get a boost and the introduction of ART runtime (replaces Dalvik) and support for 64-bit processors will definitely help. Furthermore, many of the users who got to install Android L Developer Preview on their smartphones and tablets are reporting battery life improvements.

The Android 5.0 L lock screen and the notification bar received noteworthy improvements, as well. The former one now displays notifications and allows you to interact with them. Furthermore, the lock screen notifications are prioritized based on the frequency you interact with them. The notifications bar looks and behaves different in Android 5.0 L. Besides receiving a new color scheme, the notifications bar has also ditched the Quick Settings button. The Quick Settings menu itself is still there, but you will access it differently. In order to get to the Quick Settings toggles you will have to swipe down once to open the notifications bar, then swipe once more. Once there, you will find toggles for Wi-Fi, Mobile Network, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, Sound, Location, Do Not Disturb, and Rotation Lock. As you can see, the Do Not Disturb and Rotation Lock toggles are completely new. The Adaptive Brightness replaces Auto Brightness and the Brightness button is now a slider. The recents are now displayed as cards, in a way similar to how Chrome’s recents tabs are displayed. Furthermore, certain apps can show multiple cards in the multitasking menu. Chrome is one of them, being capable of showing a different card for each opened tab.
