Unfortunately, the press event invitation itself doesn’t reveal to many details about the HTC One M9. It has a starry background, with “utopia in progress” tagline, and information on where and when the event will be held.

Sony Xperia 12-inch Tablet Rumored to Arrive by 1H 2015

A new report on Digitimes claims that Sony Mobile is looking at launching a new 12-inch tablet device in the first half of next year. This isn’t the first time that we are hearing rumors about a 12-inch Xperia tablet as around a few days back the rumor mills were buzzing about a Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra tablet with mind-boggling specs. Back then, we weren’t quite sure if the rumor could be trusted as the spec-sheet sounded too good to be true, but this new report from Digitimes does further strengthen the previous rumors about the ‘Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra’.

The report claims that Sony will be starting mass production of the 12-inch tablet soon and launch it by the first half of 2015. The tablet is said to come with a 12.9-inch 3840 x 2400 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8MP camera, and a body that’s around 8.6mm thin. Surprisingly, supply chain sources have told Digitimes that the tablet is likely to be priced in excess of $1000, which will make it one of the most expensive tablets in the market. Now, we’re not sure if there really is a market out there for a $1000 Android tablet. Especially when you consider the fact that the most expensive iPad model is on sale for $699 currently. It’s not just Sony that will be jumping into the 12-inch tablet market, Digitimes also claims Apple and other vendors are also all set to enter the premium 12-inch tablet market. This is likely to impact demand for notebook computers next year, although it does remain to be seen if the 12-inch tablets will really be able to affect notebook sales if they are going to be priced much higher than most 10-inch tablets in the market currently.

Design

SamMobile has previously stated that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will likely be unlike any Galaxy S device ever seen before, due to the poor Galaxy S5 sales and the fact that Samsung has recently replaced the head of its mobile division, which means that changes are in store for the Galaxy S line.

You can definitely expect the Galaxy S6 to follow in the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Alpha’s footsteps, using an actual metal mid-frame instead of a metallic plastic one, as well as a new rear that will still be removable. The event is going to showcase some big news for the tech industry, but above all, there have been some allegations saying that the Sony Xperia Z4 will make an appearance at the show.

Sony’s Xperia Z4 is still quite a mysterious device, but its existence has already been confirmed. The device is the next in Sony’s flagship line, and will pack some serious hardware. Sony is keeping up its promise of releasing a new flagship every six months, which is actually highly impressive considering the amount of time it takes a tech company to produce a new device. Obviously, the capacity to release new devices in short amounts of time doesn’t dictate quality, but it does prove competence.

The Apple Watch has been rumored for over a year at this point, but Apple finally announced it earlier this year in September, alongside the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. This device is the first smartwatch to ever be compatible with iPhones, which is great news for iOS lovers. We can expect the device to be complete with brand new innovative tools, and a brand new iOS interface, specifically made for wearables. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at everything there is to know about the upcoming Apple Watch, from the release date to the specs.

Release Date

Apple has previously stated that the wearable will not be available until early 2015, but hasn’t offered any information other than that. We can expect the device to appear at some point after February, according to Angela Ahrendts, the senior vice president of retail stores. She previously told employees to expect the device to be available after the Chinese New Year, eliminating the rumored Valentine’s Day release from the picture.

We’ll likely be seeing a developer version released at some point in the future, due to the fact that apps are going to be what attracts most users to this device. Either way, the new smartwatch is going to cost you a pretty penny, but on the plus side, you have a large choice of free bands to choose from.

Digital Crown

Recent rumors have stated that the Apple Watch will feature a dial on the side that has been dubbed the Digital Crown. This dial will contain sensors that will turn movement into data, likely meaning that the dial will be the main input method for the device, instead of the touch display. In other words, everything from scrolling to zooming in and out will be made possible by this Digital Crown.

We’re not sure whether this is a positive addition to smartwatches or not. While gestures may be made a tad difficult by such a small display, it may be more obnoxious to rely on using a dial to scroll through articles. Supposedly, this Digital Crown will also act as the home button on the device. We’ll have to wait and see just how this addition to the device comes to be once its released.

Supposedly, the display will be made of sapphire, just as the iPhone 6 was rumored to be. This display will be able to detect force, and it will be extremely durable. With a flick of your wrist, the Apple Watch display will turn on. Sadly, the device is not waterproof, so do not expect it to be able to take a dip in the pool with you. Naturally, it’ll be protected from the odd drop, but you’ll still have to be careful.

Aesthetics

The Apple Watch will feature a polish or space black stainless steel finish on the face and your choice of watch strap.

The Watch Sport Edition will instead feature an aluminum face that you can get in both space gray or silver, and your choice of a Sport Band.

Then there’s the Apple Watch Edition, which will truly be a fashion statement, with 18K yellow or rose gold face and your choice of straps, and that will be exclusive to the Apple Watch Edition lineup.

The straps will be available in plenty of different styles and colors for everyone’s unique tastes. The Sport Bands will be available in black, blue, green, pink, and white, and will look a little more athletic and less professional. The Classic Buckle look will be available in black and blue, the Leather Loop collection will be available in blue, brown, and stone, the Modern Buckle will be available in blue, brown, soft pink, rose gray, and bright red, and last but not least, the Milanese Loop style and Link Bracelet will be available in stainless steel and polished space black.

Tech Specs

We can expect the new Apple Watch to feature a long list of new sensors and an all new processing chip. The new processing chip has been dubbed the S1 and features a handful of subsystems that are meant to be put through quite a lot and still be okay.

There will be four infrared, LED, and photodiodes sensors on the back of the Apple Watch that will be used to detect your heart rate, which will be paired with the accelerometer and GPS signals in your device to use with the Health App on your iPhone or Apple Watch, in order to display your daily activity levels.

Aside from that, Apple has also incorporated a Taptic Engine into the Apple Watch which will allow the smartwatch to enable an all new set of alerts that you can hear and feel, which will be able to assist you in daily activities in more ways than one. For example, when using your Maps app, you’ll be able to feel something, or hear a certain sound, depending on which direction you are supposed to turn.

Inductive Charging

Many have been curious about Apple’s method for charging the Apple Watch, and it seems that we finally know what it’ll be. The device will supposedly feature inductive charging, which will be paired with a MagSafe connector, much like the ones used on the Mac lineup of laptops.

According to Tim Cook, you’ll likely end up charging the device every night due to how much you use it, which wouldn’t be shocking, especially if consumers use it as much as they use their smartphones.

Software

For the Apple Watch, Apple has invented all new software that is specifically meant for wearable devices. Supposedly, this new software displays a handful of watch faces and is easily personalized, much like other competing smartwatches. Apple has also incorporated a new feature called Smart Replies into the software, which will allow you to easily respond to messages. Supposedly, the device will also work with all Continuity features that are currently available on your iOS and OS X devices, such as Handoff. Not much else is known about the software, and there’s still quite a bit that needs to be updated, such as third-party apps. Both way, we’re very excited to see what comes of the software on this device, and it could mean a whole new world for jailbreak developers.

Google Nexus 6 US Release Date Closer Than Ever

Just in time for its release, Google’s Nexus 6 phablet has passed the FCC certification test. Google is set to start accepting pre-orders for the device starting on October 29th from the Google Play Store, and two model names related to the Nexus 6 have passed the certification test today.

Nexus 6 gets FCC clearance

The two models which went through the FCC certification test are IHDT56QD2 and IHDT56QD1, and we can assume that these two different models are the international version and the US version. FCC certification tests always help confirm a few features ahead of a device’s release, but in this case, we were quite surprised to see some unmentioned Nexus 6 networking features. Google’s phablet will come equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0, NFC, and Qi wireless charging.

LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, and 41 are also included in the famous device, but oddly enough, its international variant only supports the following LTE bands: 5 and 41. These two LTE bands are only helpful in China and South Korea, so this may hint that the Nexus 6 might not be coming to Europe, at least not anytime soon. The phone’s late European release isn’t certain though, as the North American model is also missing two LTE bands.

Other than that, FCC has basically confirmed the tech specs that were being speculated so far: 6.0-inch 1440 x 2560 pixel AMOLED display with 493 ppi, a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, and an Adreno 420 GPU. Other tech specs include 3GB of RAM, 64GB of native storage, expandable using an external microSD card up to 128GB, and a 13MP primary shooter, accompanied by a 2MP frontal camera.

We’re expecting a great volume of sales for the Nexus 6, especially since the device also comes with Android 5.0 L pre-installed, which is partially why everyone is trying to get their hands on it. The release of the Nexus 5 was fraught with problems as the device was out of stock within hours, and the international release was similarly a very slow process. Thus, Google is expected to have a much larger stock prepared for the Nexus 6.

LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Release Date Set for Late 2014

It seems like LG is getting ready to announce the official roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop update, if we were to believe a report that comes from Netherlands, TechTastic. The supposed LG representative for Belgium and Netherlands stated that the official announcement isn’t too far away and that we should expect it to arrive in the following weeks.

There is no word on the Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out for LG G3 devices worldwide, but the rumor mill has it that it should haven before the end of this year. LG is currently one of the last Android device manufacturers that hasn’t officially presented the Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out plan. HTC is planning on launching Android 5.0 Update starting with January 2015 for their flagship models, Sony will begin the Xperia Z3 Android 5.0 Lollipop starting with late January 2015. Samsung will most probably be releasing the upgrade in December, while Motorola should be able to successfully update all of their 2013 and 2014 models before the end of February 2015.

Androd 5.0 Lollipop will come with tons of new changes and improvements, features that should completely overhaul the overall interface look such as the new Material Design UI. Here are some of the most important changes that will be added by Android 5.0 Lollipop: better interface, notifications menu revamped, new notifications behavior, Priority Mode, battery saving feature, security tweaks, Android Smart Lock, Device Sharing capabilities for multiple users, Guest User support, improved Quick Settings, connectivity improvements, BLE peripheral mode, Android Runtime (ART), improved graphics, OpenGL ES 3.1, OK Google tweaks, more than 68 new languages are supported right now, and more.

Most new features added by the overall Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade will be adapted and implemented by LG, so you will get a different looking UI than the stock Android ROMs. However, all the changes announced with the new OS will be entirely integrated in LG’s interface. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Release Date Problems Linger

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date problems continue to linger in the United States where Galaxy Note 4 stock remains extremely uneven a week after the U.S. Galaxy Note 4 release.

Samsung’s all new Galaxy Note 4 is an impressive smartphone and one that comes loaded with high-powered specs including a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, a brand new 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, a new S Pen stylus, Android 4.4.4 KitKat software that’s backed by TouchWiz, and a brand new design that comes with both plastic and metal materials.

The Galaxy Note 4 has replaced the Galaxy Note 3 in several regions this month including the United States where it landed on the nation’s five largest carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon Wireless. After a bit of a delay, all five carriers are stocking Samsung’s brand new flagship though companies are still having a tough time keeping the Galaxy Note 4 in stock.

Ahead of the Galaxy Note 4 release date, we saw several delays. Samsung UK pushed the Galaxy Note 4 release date back a week and Samsung Australia was forced to postpone the Galaxy Note 4 release date to a later date. And while the initial U.S. Galaxy Note 4 release date did not move off of October 17th, we’re seeing some U.S. Galaxy Note 4 problems linger in the days after that release date.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 stock in the United States is very uneven, even at official carriers where some models are in stock while others are currently unavailable to buyers. Hardest hit though are Samsung’s retail partners that currently present very unbalanced fronts in terms of Galaxy Note 4 stock. Here’s what we’ve discovered thus far.

Yesterday, Verizon finally released the Galaxy Note 4. Despite its arrival, the Verizon Galaxy Note 4 release date is still very troubled. Not only is the carrier still not offering the white Galaxy Note 4, Amazon is still not taking any orders for the white or black models and Best Buy is sold out of both models online. That Amazon isn’t taking orders on day one is pretty telling given that we can’t remember the last time it didn’t have stock available on release day.

We’ve heard that some physical Best Buy locations have the Verizon Galaxy Note 4 in stock though buyers will want to call ahead especially when looking for the white Galaxy Note 4 model.

Verizon Galaxy Note 4 release date was originally slated for last week but that the release date was postponed a week to October 23rd. Retailers were expecting stock last week but got word late that Verizon would not be releasing the phone. Verizon’s Note 4 quietly hit shelves yesterday.

Verizon’s Galaxy Note 4 release isn’t the only troubled release date in the U.S. Best Buy is currently sold out of the Sprint Galaxy Note 4 online, same with Costco. We’ve also heard that some Best Buy locations, including locations with Samsung Experience pop up shops, never got any AT&T or Sprint Galaxy Note 4 stock. Those, especially the Sprint model, appear to be in short supply.

These release problems are not unprecedented though they are a bit surprising given Samsung’s track record. While the Galaxy S3 release ran into some bumps in the road, the company, for the most part, has been able to keep its supply lines churning to keep up with demand. Last year’s Galaxy Note 3 was extremely easy to find and consumers had no trouble picking up a Galaxy S5 when it arrived in April.

It’s not clear how long these delays and shortages will last or if they will stretch into the holidays and Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the entire year. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is one of the best smartphones of the year and consumers across the United States will be comparing it to top options like the iPhone 6 Plus, LG G3, and more.
