The official Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update firmware files for the International Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 have been spotted at Android-Hilfe.de forums earlier today and, you can download them right away. It means that Samsung has pushed out the new Lollipop firmware files in Germany and we can safely say that more countries will be getting the update in the following weeks.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 should bring the Material Design UI, Smart Lock, new TouchWiz features with some bloatware being trimmed down slightly, Device Sharing features like Multiple Users, Guest User support and Screen pinning. Some other major changes should be spotted in the camera software and throughout the entire UI of your phone.

The Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 should be much faster and the TouchWiz has to be smoother than it was on KitKat, as it now uses the better Android Runtime (ART) technology instead of the old Dalvik for running applications. The build date of this Android 5.0.1 Lollipop firmware it seems to be January 29 2015 which means that Samsung is toying with this launch for a while now.

If you’re based in Germany and you own a Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE with I9505 as its model number, then you should keep an eye on your phone’s notification screen as the update might be released really soon. The Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE has received earlier today the first Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA Update. The roll out is done in phases and it is currently available only in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany.

Check your phone’s notification panel or connect it to your computer and run KIES and see if there are any new firmware files available for installation.

The official Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA Update adds thousands of changes for Galaxy S4 LTE-A devices. After you’re done installing the new firmware files you will notice first the brand new Material Design UI and the revamped TouchWiz interface. Lollipop OS adds new notifications control, lock screen notifications, Priority Mode that only allows notifications from certain contacts, Battery Saving Mode, estimated time left before the phone charges / discharges completely, Device Sharing capabilities, Multiple Users support, Guest User and Screen Pinning. This new update has been pushed out in Europe and it seems like the Galaxy S4 LTE-A owners in other regions will wait a few days more before the Android 5.0.1 OS arrives. If you’re in Czech Republic, Germany, and Slovakia or in any other European country, then you should keep an eye on your phone’s notification panel and be ready to confirm the OTA Update installation when it arrives. Note that the update is rolled out only for Stock Galaxy 4 LTE-A devices, you won’t be getting any new firmware files in case your phone is running a custom ROM.

Samsung is now seeding the Android 5.0.0 Lollipop update to the S4 GPE devices. Strangely the update isn’t based on the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop version as the Galaxy S5. This is a bit odd considering the Google Play Edition runs stock Android and is thus getting the 5.0.1 firmware ready for the device should ideally take a lot less time than developing for TouchWiz based devices like the Galaxy S5. Nevertheless, the 5.0.1 update for the device should also be rolling out in the coming weeks. So far the only devices to run Android 5.0.1 apart from the Galaxy S5 are the Nexus devices and the HTC One M8 & One M7 GPE models.

The Android Lollipop OTA update for the Galaxy S4 GPE is around 500MB in size and if you own one, you can check for the update by going into Settings – About Phone – System Update. Ideally it should show up automatically in notifications though, so you shouldn’t have to manually check for the update. The update brings all the Android Lollipop features and improvements like the updated Material Design UI, improved performance thanks to the switch to Android ART runtime, new lockscreen notifications, multi-user support including Guest mode, new battery saving mode and improvements to battery life thanks to Project Volta, interruption and downtime settings, improved security, Smart Lock and a lot more.

If you haven’t received the OTA update yet on your Galaxy S4 GPE, you can download the OTA ZIP file from this link or even the full ODIN recovery image and then perform a full restore in the program. You can simply download the OTA ZIP file and transfer it to the internal storage. Boot into recovery on your device and perform a factory reset. You will also need to wipe cache, Dalvik cache, system and data individually. Once you are done wiping everything, simply flash the ZIP file to get the latest Android 5.0 firmware running on your Galaxy S4 GPE.

If you have a regular Galaxy S4 and are wondering when Samsung will be rolling out the Android Lollipop update for it, you definitely will need to wait longer as the update for the Galaxy S4 is expected to arrive early next year. This means that some of you might have to wait longer than others before being able to install the new update on their devices.

Verizon Releases new Android OTA for Samsung Galaxy S4

While Android 5.0 Lollipop is already pushed out for different Android smartphones and tablets, Verizon just released a new official update for its Galaxy S4 devices. No, it is not the OTA Lollipop roll out you expect, as this time we are only talking about a minor OS improvement, so KitKat is the common word.

The new Verizon OTA should embrace your Samsung Galaxy S4 right away, so you can already check if a new notification is available on your phone. The notification should be displayed automatically on your phone – just slide down the notification panel – or you can manually search for the new OTA by going to “menu – settings – about phone – software update”. If the update is there, ensure a Wi-Fi connection and follow the on screen prompts to automatically flash the same.

As already pointed out, these roll out represents only a minor Android improvement that should smooth things up on your Verizon Galaxy S4. The firmware should address issues related to VPN connectivity and intermittent power cycle problem. And that’s quite all; just these two problems will be resolved by this OTA release, so don’t expect to receive new features or apps along with other stability improvements.

Anyway, after all, it’s good to see that Verizon is still trying to satisfy its clients, even if it implies in providing such a small update. Even though everybody is talking about the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Nexus devices, there are some good news for the Galaxy S4 owners, too. If you happen to own the AT&T variant of the S4, you should keep an eye on the notifications panel.

AT&T revealed today that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 update is now being pushed to users. Their S4 was already running KitKat (Android 4.4.2) so there won’t be any interface improvements such as transparent status and nav bars, immersive mode, new location menu, white status bar icons. The Android 4.4.4 update for Samsung Galaxy S4 arrives to improve security, to add Knox 2.0, and to fix various bugs including the E911 Call issue. The new update will also add some more AT&T bloatware like Keeper, Mail, Live, Uber, Remote Support, and Device help.

As usual, we are dealing with a staged roll out, which means that some users might not be able to download and install the new update right away. Once your Galaxy S4 becomes eligible to receive the Android 4.4.4 update, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, then follow the on-screen instructions. It also brings KNOX 2.0 and changes ISIS Wallet name to Softcard and adds “Apply” and “Cancel” buttons to Home Screen mode. The new update brings Keyboard enhancements and support for MyVerizon Diagnostics, Side Sync Call Forwarding Framework, and Kids Mode, too.

Samsung has tons of devices in which they send out an update for at least one, every single day. Today, we’re going to look over their current plans and see which devices they are updating this month.

Android 4.4.4

Last week, we talked about Optus, an Australian carrier, and their latest update news for Android 4.4.4 KitKat on the Galaxy S5. They told us that Samsung has approved the final code and they are expecting it to be sent to them very soon. Once Optus has received the code and completed their internal tests, they can start pushing the update out to their customers. Speaking of 4.4.4, we’ve also seen reports that indicate the European Galaxy S5 LTE-A should be receiving the latest version of Android very soon.

Android 4.4.3

As for Android 4.4.3, Rogers (in Canada) is reportedly getting this update ready for a bunch of their Samsung devices. If everything works out, we could see devices like the Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S3 Mini and the Galaxy Note 8 receiving this Android 4.4.3 update soon. There is no hint as to when this update will be released, though. We will be sure to update you with their progress as soon as we know more.

Android 4.4.2

Even though 4.4.2 isn’t the latest version of Android, this is the version that Samsung is currently sending to most of their devices. This is because of several reasons, but the main reason relates to how long it takes Samsung to complete and send out an update. Just because Google releases Android 4.4.4 KitKat, doesn’t mean Samsung will abandon all the work they have done on the 4.4.2 updates to that point. Whichever devices they are working on at that time will continue to be worked on until they’re released to the carrier/customers.

As of right now, we’re seeing the Galaxy S4 devices in Baltic, France, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, UAE, UK and in South Korea receiving this 4.4.2 update. Also, Galaxy Tab 4 devices in Baltic, France, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Hong Kong, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago are receiving the 4.4.2 update. Galaxy Note 3 users in Russia, Ukraine, Portugal, Hong Kong, Argentina (Note 3 Neo) and New Zealand are receiving the 4.4.2 update. Lastly, Galaxy Note 2 users in Slovenia, Italy and Portugal are receiving the 4.4.2 update as well.

These are a lot of devices and a lot of various countries around the world. If you don’t see your device or country listed, then rest assured that Samsung is working on it and they should be pushing out an update sometime in the future. Just looking at all those countries and all those devices gives us a little perspective on exactly how hard Samsung works on updates even if it does seem like they’re working slowly.
