Even though
Android 5.0 Lollipop is a thing now, only the Nexus devices and a couple of
Motorola smartphones have received the update so far. In the meantime, Samsung
announced that the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 update is now being rolled out
for the AT&T variant of the smartphone. Therefore, if you purchased a
Galaxy Note 3 from AT&T, you would want to keep an eye on the notifications
bar.
Because all
the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white
status bar icons, cloud printing, new Location controls, immersive mode,
color emoji support, or full screen album and movie art in the lockscreen were
patched in the Android 4.4.2 update, the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4
update only arrives with minor improvements. According to the changelog posted
on Samsung’s website the
new firmware arrives with Note 3 Value pack which includes Kids Mode, Side Sync
3.0, Safety Assistance, Camera improvements, and Knox 2.0.
As usual, the
update is being rolled out in phases, which means that some of you might have
to wait longer than others. As you may know already, once your terminal becomes
eligible to receive the new firmware you should be able to see a
system update message in the notifications bar. Tap on it, then follow the
on-screen instructions. In case the system update notification failed to
appear, you would also want to perform a manual check under Settings > More
> About device > Software update > Check for updates.
Alternatively, you can grab the USB cable, connect the device to the PC, and
check for the update via KIES.
It’s also
worth mentioning that the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 update has
baseband version N900AUCUDNJ5 and a size of around 450 MB. We are
recommending you to download the update file using a Wi-Fi network in order to
avoid unwanted data charges.
