A couple of days ago, Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S5 got updated to Android 5.0
Lollipop and now we hear
that the folks at AT&T are rolling out a new software update for Sammy’s
2014 flagship smartphone. Unfortunately, it’s not Lollipop, but another
Android 4.4.4 KitKat build.
The Galaxy S5 was released with Android 4.4.2 so the
KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white status
bar icons, immersive mode, cloud printing, full screen album and movie art in
the lock screen, or color emoji support were already in place. According to the
changelog posted on AT&T’s website, the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4
KitKat update arrives with improvements, bug fixes, and security patches, along
with HD Voice support and VoLTE (Voice over LTE). Unfortunately, the new
software update adds even more bloatware: Mail – ATT Mail, AT&T Live, Uber,
and Remote support.
The Android 4.4.4 update for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 is
being rolled out in phases, meaning that it will not hit all terminals in the
same time. When your device becomes eligible to receive the new firmware
you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar.
Tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also perform a manual
check under Settings > About device > Software update > Check for
updates. You can also check for the update via KIES. Grab the USB cable,
connect your smartphone to the PC, and then launch Samsung’s software tool.
The Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update has build number
KTU84P.G900AUCU2AOA1 and weighs in at 487 MB. We are recommending you to
download the update using a Wi-Fi network in order to avoid unwanted data
charges.
