Samsung
Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA Update Now Available from Verizon
Verizon
Wireless has
started the official Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll out for the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Keep an eye on your phone’s notification panel as the official
KitKat firmware files should arrive any time now.
The new Android
4.4.4 KitKat official update doesn’t
add that much over the previous Android 4.4.2 firmware which
was launched last month. With this new KitKat build you will get several
security fixes and bugs corrected along with several user interface
improvements. The Verizon Galaxy S5 official web page hasn’t been updated yet
with the change log of this new update, but this should appear eventually.
Numerous users on various forums and Google+ posts
have noticed that the Fingerprint Scanner animation has been improved and it
works way better than it did until now. Also, the Visual Voicemail has been
tweaked, the Bluetooth headset loss of audio has been fixed, the Smart Remote
features a new design, the Emergency Call button that’s present on the
lockscreen can be initiated by swiping its icon, Lockscreen Landscape is now
support on lockscreen, and numerous other small tweaks done to the overall UI.
Android 4.4.4 KitKat for Verizon Galaxy S5 is rolled
out in phases which mean that not all users will get the latest firmware files
today, but you should get them surely by the end of the month if you’re running
a stock ROM on your device. The new update has the firmware version set to
KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANHA and it will surely be the final KitKat build that we will
see released for any Samsung Galaxy S5 phone.
Google is getting ready to release the official Android L
(5.0) update any time now
and Samsung along with all the US carriers will want to start working on
optimizing the Android L for their devices. After the new operating system is
released, Samsung will surely persuade every carrier to ready their phones
and release the first Android L update by the end of this year.
If the Android 4.4.4 OTA Update has been released
for your Verizon Galaxy S5, then you can use the field below and tell us if
you’ve found any major changes and if your phone is running better than it did
with the Android 4.4.2 build. Also, make sure to test the battery life where we
all know that Samsung and Verizon could have done better and made it last much
longer than it currently does.
Remember that the new firmware is rolled in phases
and that you should use the Wi-Fi connection when the KitKat notification
arrives for your device. Download the files, and then let the Verizon Galaxy S5
complete the Android 4.4.4 Update by itself.
