Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat
Update Release Confirmed
A Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update release is now confirmed for
the United States with Samsung acknowledging plans to release the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat
update for Sprint, a carrier notorious for being first to high
profile Android updates.
Back in June, Google pushed out two brand new
Android 4.4 KitKat updates in Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
Both were, and still are, bug fixers aimed at quelling major Android 4.4.2 KitKat
problems. In the past three months, we’ve seen several Android manufacturers
make it a point to deliver these two updates to smartphone and tablet users
including Samsung, the world’s largest Android manufacturer.
While
HTC, Motorola and Sony Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates
are widespread, Samsung hasn’t started a massive Android 4.4.4 KitKat push. We
could, however, be close to one.
Earlier this month, we saw a number of new Samsung Galaxy
Android 4.4.4 KitKat update details emerge including Android 4.4.4 KitKat
confirmed for the Galaxy Note 4 and the company’s first Samsung Galaxy Android
4.4.4 KitKat roll out.
Last week, Samsung also started
rolling out the Galaxy S3 Neo Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in Kazakhstan. The update is available
Over-the-Air and it’s available through the company’s Samsung Kies software for
PC. It’s not clear what’s on board though the update should deliver crucial bug
fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems. While the roll out is limited to this
single update, we could be close to a few others.
Australian carrier Optus recently confirmed an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for its
Samsung Galaxy S5 though a release date remains unclear. We also spotted both
the Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update and Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat
update lurking on Sprint’s website last week, a sign that their releases could
be close.
Today,
Samsung briefly posted Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update details to its website, complete with
a change log. The release date for the update was listed for today but we
haven’t seen any Sprint Galaxy Note 3 users report an OTA and it’s currently not
available through Samsung Kies. So while it could arrive today, there’s a
chance it could be a delayed or staggered release.
Given its appearance there and on Sprint’s website, it’s safe to
assume that the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is close for most
Sprint users. Other carriers remain out of the picture for the moment and it’s
not clear if any other carriers plan to push out Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the
Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3.
The
Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4.4 KitKat situation is still murky and unfortunately,
we still haven’t seen any details regarding Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, or Galaxy
Note 2 Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrades surface and it’s not clear if Samsung has
any plans for them ahead of Google’s Android L update.
Google’s Android L update was first announced at Google I/O 2014
back in June. And while the update
is available in beta form for developers, it’s still without a public release
date. Rumors point to an arrival later this year though that remains
unconfirmed. And while companies like HTC and Motorola have confirmed upcoming Android L
releases, Android L details still haven’t emerged for Samsung Galaxy devices.
For now, Galaxy users will want to focus in on the Android 4.4.4
KitKat update, Google’s latest, and an update that could potentially fix some
of the problems that arrived alongside Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates this year.
U.S. carriers almost never confirm release date ahead of time which means that
users on carriers like AT&T and Verizon will almost certainly be waiting in
the dark for Android 4.4.4 KitKat and its bug fixes.
Now that Sprint looks ready to roll out its update, perhaps
we’ll see other carriers announce their plans in the days ahead.
