Over the past
couple of weeks, the folks at Google released the Android 5.0.1 for their Nexus
line-up, except for their flagship smartphone for 2013, the Nexus 5. Now
the Nexus 5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is being pushed to users.
The Android
5.0 Lollipop update begun rolling out in November and many users have
complained over various bugs. Even though Android 5.0.1 is not a major update,
I am pretty sure that most users were eagerly anticipating it, especially those
who accused massive battery drains after they updated their smartphone to
Lollipop. For the time being there’s no official changelog for Android 5.0.1,
but you shouldn’t expect new features or such things. The new update is mostly
rolled out to fix some bugs and improve the overall system stability.
As usual, the
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 5 is being rolled out in phases, which
means that some of you might not be able to download and install it right away.
You probably know already that once your smartphone becomes eligible to receive
the new firmware you should be able to see a system update message in the
notifications bar. All you need to do is tap on it then follow the on-screen
instructions. In case the system update notification failed to appear you would
also want to perform a manual check under Settings > About phone >
Software updates > Check now.
The new Nexus
5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update has build number LRX22C and weighs in at around
14 MB. Because of the update file’s small size, it won’t be necessary to use a Wi-Fi
network to download it, as it won’t do too much damage to your data plan.
In case you
haven’t received the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update on your Nexus 5 you should
be able to force the update manually using the OTA ZIP file. You can also apply
the update by flashing the Android 5.0.1 factory image for Nexus 5, but be
aware that the data on your device will be wiped after you apply the factory
image.
