If you
purchased your Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini from AT&T you should expect a new
software update to become available for your device. Unfortunately, it’s not
Android 5.0 Lollipop, but it would surely want to have it installed on your
device.
The new
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini OTA update is still based on Android 4.4.2. Because all
the KitKat-specific goodies such as transparent status and nav bars, white
status bar icons, new Location menu, cloud printing, immersive mode, color
emoji support, or full screen album and movie art in the lock screen were
patched in the previous Android 4.4.2 update, the new firmware only arrives
with minor improvements. According to AT&T’s
changelog, the new Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Android 4.4.2
update arrives with support for VoLTE inter-op call hold, SIM less 911 Dialing
update, ISIM SQN re-sync for VoLTE reregistration, and v4v6 for IMS
PDN while roaming.
The update is
being pushed to users over-the-air and, as usual, we are dealing with a staged
roll out. When your terminal becomes eligible to receive the new Android 4.4.2
update you should receive a system update message in the notifications bar. Tap
on it, choose ‘Download now’, wait until the download is completed, then select
‘Install now’. Your smartphone should reboot and install the new software. If
the system update notification failed to appear you would also want to perform
a manual check under Settings > More > About phone > Software updates
> Check for software updates. Alternatively, you can grab the USB
cable, connect your S4 Mini to the PC, and manually check for the update via
KIES.
Depending on
the firmware your Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is currently running, the new
OTA update will have a size of between 102 – 595 MB. We are recommending
you to download the update file using a Wi-Fi network in order to avoid
unwanted data charges.
