Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Antutu & Geekbench Scores Blow Away the Competition



The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has recently been spotted in not one but two popular benchmarks – Antutu and Geekbench. This time, not only are the specifications of the device revealed, but we also have the benchmark scores to go by. Honestly, we expected the Samsung Galaxy S6 to be one the most powerful Android devices at launch, but the Galaxy S6 Edge benchmark scores on these two popular benchmarks put it on another level altogether when it comes to performance. The Galaxy S6 managed to set new performance records in both the benchmarks.
The Samsung SM-G925W8 was put through the Antutu benchmark and managed to score an incredible 60,978 on the benchmark. This is not just the highest score recorded on the benchmark yet, but also significantly higher than anything else on the market currently. So if you were worried about Samsung not using the Snapdragon 810 chipset on the Galaxy S6, you can put all those worries to rest now. The Exynos 7420 chipset on the Galaxy S6 Edge has proved to be an absolute beast and is likely to maintain a lead over the Snapdragon 810 and other mobile chipsets currently available in other benchmarks as well. In the Antutu test, the Exynos 7420 is reported to bring major gains as far as graphics performance goes, which is great news as the Quad HD resolution and also a heavy TouchWiz UI should be no problem for the chip to handle.
The Antutu benchmark leak also reveals most of the specifications of the Galaxy S6 Edge. Unlike the older Antutu benchmark leak where the Galaxy S6 display was reported to be 5.5-inches, the latest leak suggests that the Galaxy S6 Edge will come with a 5.1” size display with Quad HD 2560 x 1440 resolution. This translates to a mind-boggling pixel density of 576PPI, the highest pixel density among smartphone displays yet. The RAM has been reported to be 3GB and not 4GB as was reported earlier. The internal storage was reported to be 32GB, similar to the previous leak. As for the cameras, the Galaxy S6 Edge includes a 20MP camera at the back and a 5MP front-facing camera according to the benchmark.
The Galaxy S6 Edge impressed in the Geekbench benchmark as well. The model that went through the Geekbench test was the the SM-G925P variant of the S6 Edge. In the single-core test the smartphone managed to score 1492 while in the multi-core test it scored 5077 points. Although not as impressive as the earlier leaked Geekbench score of the Exynos 7420, the scores are still very impressive and higher than almost every other mobile device available in the market currently. Its closest rival, the Apple iPad Air 2, manages a score of 4532 in the same test. However, when it comes to the single-core test, a few devices like the Google Nexus 9 do score slightly higher. Overall though, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (and the Galaxy S6) are shaping up to be truly impressive smartphones and may enjoy a slight lead over other flagship smartphones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, at least as far as benchmark performance is concerned.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are expected to be announced at Samsung’s UNPACKED event scheduled to be held on March 1 in Barcelona.


Alleged Sony Xperia Z4 Spotted in Geekbench Running Android 5.0.2



We first heard that the Sony Xperia Z4 could be unveiled at CES in January, and then it was rumored that the flagship might arrive at Mobile World Congress in March. The latest reports are indicating that the Sony Xperia Z4 release date will not be at MWC. But we aren’t hearing to talk about the Smartphone’s launch, but about its latest cameo.
A Sony-made smartphone codenamed 78YB16RC98PW62B1 has been spotted by the folks at blogofmobile.com in Geekbench database. Even though the codename is unusual for a Sony smartphone, all clues point that it’s the yet-unannounced Xperia Z4.
According to the Geekbench entry, the smartphone is running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, while being underpinned by a Qualcomm processor. The motherboard is marked as “msm8994″ which checks out with the code of the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 chipset. I remind you that the SoC is based on quad-core ARM Cortex A57 and quad-core A53 with 64-bit support and an Adreno 430 GPU. The latest leak also revealed that the smartphone will integrate 3 GB of RAM.
If the rumors prove true, then the Xperia Z4 should have the same screen size and resolution as its predecessor, the Xperia Z3. Design-wise, the new flagship should be similar to the last three members of the Xperia Z tribe.
Unfortunately, there is no way to verify the veracity of the report; therefore we are recommending you to take it with a pinch of salt. After all, nothing is official until Sony says so.

Samsung Galaxy S6 with Exynos 7420 64-bit Chipset Gets Benchmarked, Reveals Beastly Performance



Unlike in the past, Samsung is expected to use its Exynos 7 Octa-core 64-bit chipset for the upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone. In the past few weeks we have seen many new reports appear on the web that detail the reasons behind Samsung choosing to stick to its Exynos 7420 chipset for the Galaxy S6. A recent report even claimed that Qualcomm may provide Samsung with a special variant of the Snapdragon 810 for the Galaxy S6. However, it doesn’t look like the use of the Exynos 7420 chip will disappoint anyone as it managed to perform admirably well in the Geekbench benchmark recently.
The Exynos 7420 managed to score impressively high in the Geekbench test with a single-core score of 1520 and multi-core score of 5478. The single-core score is higher than Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 devices, with only the NVIDIA Tegra K1 chipset in the Google Nexus 9 managing a better score than the Exynos 7420. However, in the multi-core test the Exynos 7420 managed to gain a massive lead over all current mobile chipsets, including the NVIDIA Tegra K1 and the Snapdragon 805. The Google Nexus 9 manages a score of around 3200 on the multi-core test while the Snapdragon 805 powered devices like the Google Nexus 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 can score a shade under 3000. We still do not have any leaked benchmarks of the Snapdragon 810 to go by, but it does look like the Galaxy S6 will be one powerful beast when it launches.
We also need to keep in mind that the device that was run through the Geekbench test is most likely a prototype device running on unfinished software. On final hardware with the updated software, the scores can go up slightly. So all in all we’re looking at one of the most impressive mobile chipsets of the year in the new Exynos 7420. In the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S5, the Exynos chipsets didn’t quite manage to bowl us over with the performance, but this year it seems like Samsung has worked really hard on the new Exynos chipsets and it doesn’t seem like anyone will miss the Snapdragon 810 as far as both performance and connectivity goes. Unlike previous Exynos chipsets, the Exynos 7420 is expected to arrive with an integrated LTE Cat.9 modem with Tri-Band Carrier Aggregation like on the recently announced Korean variant of the Galaxy Note 4.
Together with the rumored light TouchWiz version that is expected to debut with the Galaxy S6, the Exynos 7420 chip is likely to ensure butter smooth performance on the Galaxy S6, with none of the performance issues that all Galaxy flagships have suffered from so far.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Show Up Once Again In Antutu Benchmark



The Samsung Galaxy S6 is definitely going to be one of the most popular Android smartphones of 2015, just like all the previous Samsung Galaxy flagships before it. The smartphone isn’t expected to arrive until around MWC next year, but rumors about the device started showing up since over a month now. Just last week we saw its spec-sheet laid bare in an Antutu benchmark screenshot, and today yet another Antutu benchmark screenshot has surfaced that shows off the specs of next year’s Samsung hero device. This time it looks like the screenshot has been taken from a Galaxy S6 prototype by someone who had access to the device.
The Antutu benchmark was reportedly ran on a Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G925F variant running Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, the same model that leaked on Antutu last week. The CPU is reported as an 8-core ARMV8 processor with support for VFPv4 and NEON instruction set. The GPU is listed as the Mali-T760. This basically confirms the use of Exynos 7420 64-bit chipset that we had seen in the earlier Antutu leak and also mentioned in the early rumors about the Galaxy S6 by SamMobile. The display resolution is 1440 x 2560 (Quad-HD) which seems all but confirmed right now. The amount of RAM isn’t mentioned in the screenshot, but we expect it to be 3GB as we had seen in the earlier leak. The only major difference from the previous leak seems to be the rear camera. While on last week’s Antutu leak the camera was listed to be a 20MP unit, this time the screenshot reveals a 16MP unit with a maximum still resolution of 5312 x 2988. That is actually the same resolution as the Galaxy S5 camera, so at least this prototype could be using the same Samsung ISOCELL camera sensor as the Galaxy S5.
The previous Antutu leak was a little more exhaustive in terms of the amount of information revealed though. Apart from the information above, it also listed the clock speed of the Exynos 7420 chipset. Samsung will apparently be clocking the Exynos 7420 chipset between 400 and 1800MHz on the Galaxy S6. It also revealed the display size to be 5.5-inches, something that SamMobile had already mentioned in the first Galaxy S6 ‘Project Zero’ leak a few weeks back.
As with recent Samsung Galaxy flagship models, we are expecting the Galaxy S6 to be available in multiple variants as well. Some with the Exynos 7420 chipset leaked here and some with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. It is not clear which exact chipset Samsung will use, as there have been reports recently that the Snapdragon 810 chipset may see some delays. Qualcomm did make a statement a few days back saying that the rumors were inaccurate, but we still can’t be completely sure. The main highlight with the Snapdragon variants of Galaxy flagships has been the better LTE connectivity on board. But according to a recent report, the next Exynos chipset may come with LTE Cat.10 support. If that does turn out to be the case, we wonder if Samsung will sell the Exynos variants in the US market instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon variants it has traditionally been selling in the US and most European markets. What is also interesting is that the leaked model number ends with 5 instead of 0, as is usually the case with Exynos variants. Samsung usually has used model numbers ending with 5 for the Snapdragon variants so far.
